Air-tightness is another crucial factor. Draft sealing around windows, doors, and joints reduces heat loss, but careful detailing ensures that vapor can still exit. Combining insulation with proper ventilation—such as passive stack vents or mechanical heat recovery systems—maintains indoor air quality while controlling dampness.
Finally, always conduct a hygrothermal assessment. Use modeling tools to simulate moisture behavior over different seasons. Consulting specialists in heritage conservation ensures that interventions respect the building’s character and materials.
