For the window head, install a metal or plastic drip cap that extends beyond the trim to deflect water away from the joint. All flashing layers must integrate with the building’s weather-resistant barrier (WRB) using proper overlap and seam sealing.
Finally, test water management by performing a water spray test after installation—simulate a rain event to verify no leaks occur at corners or joints. Using these practices minimizes callbacks and ensures the window performs as a reliable water barrier for decades. Proper sequencing—from sill preparation to final sealant—is the foundation of a successful, watertight window installation.
